For the past few years, Kimberly has been focusing on learned horses, studying the preparation and presentation of their acts. This subject revealed a need to better under stand how horses think and learn, which led to related research of equine cognition and equine communication, both intraspecies and interspecies. She conducted research in these areas using a faculty summer grant from St Joseph's University, presenting her findings on campus and at the NEPCA annual conference, both in the fall of 2025.
As of this writing, Kimberly's quest to better understand the communication styles of horses is ongoing, as is her study of learned horses and other aspects of equestrian drama and related performances/entertainments by horses. Two potential projects are on the horizon (one short-form and one long-form). Kimberly looks forward to providing more details on both soon!
